ref•u•gee - More than an exhibition.

A show about humanity & to raise awareness.

“ref•u•gee” Exhibit by Michael Fratangelo to Open on August 17

Atithi Studios, is proud to announce the opening of "ref•u•gee," a powerful new exhibit by Pittsburgh artist Michael Fratangelo.

This compelling exhibition features six 6' x 5' spiritually symbolic paintings inspired by the masses crossing the Mediterranean – capturing the harrowing journey of refugees from camps in North Africa to boats & finally to distant shores.

“Each portrait aims to open the audience's eyes to the shared plight of refugees & immigrants. This is a show about humanity.”

The August 17th  premiere will also feature a vibrant community-oriented celebration, including refugee-centric non-profits, which will display their missions & services in a street fair-type atmosphere, complete with food, music, & more. Admission is free & all are welcome to attend.

The celebration aims to foster a deeper understanding of the refugee experience & the crucial role of the cultural community in creating conversation & awareness.

“At Atithi, we are committed to celebrating culture, creativity, & our shared humanity, Michael is one of our resident artists & all of us at Atithi are proud to support him. His current work represents not only the struggles of people, but also the power of the human spirit & the crucial role we all play.”

While "Refugee" will encourage visitors to reflect on the human stories behind the headlines, it will also reintroduce & reestablish Fratangelo as a voice for refugees in conflict. He previously gained wide acclaim for his 2005 exhibit, "Iraq: Paintings of War," which resonated with audiences & critics alike & was exhibited in the Florence Biennale, an art exhibition held in Florence, Italy.

“Refugee” continues this legacy, highlighting the resilience & humanity of those facing unimaginable challenges.

Visit www.atithistudios.com for more information about the exhibit and the Saturday, August 17 premiere. The gallery at Atithi Studios is open Thursday – Saturday, 11 am – 4 pm, & by appointment.
